During the nineteenth century this town lot was the site of the Valley House, one of the region's most prominent hotels.

It was a favored stopping place for travelers who came by stage along the turnpike. It was later owned by Lucinda Leonard and was known then as Leonard's Hotel.

The Valley House was torn down after 1900 and replaced about 1915 by this building, which, for many years, housed Rohrbaugh's store. In the early years of the building the Beverly Post Office was here. The school gymnasium was in the upstairs of this building for many years. The plain, rectangular commercial building features a front parapet wall.
